My name is Kim and I'm an artist and art educator with a passion for creativity and teaching. Let me take you on a journey of my artistic endeavors and how I found my way back to my true calling.
It all began 25 years ago when I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Armed with my artistic skills and a deep love for creating, I was ready to embark on a career as an artist. However, being colorblind, I encountered discouraging remarks about the challenges I might face as a colorblind artist, which unfortunately stifled my creativity for a while.
Seeking a new path, I decided to explore the realm of education. I became a middle school art teacher and discovered immense joy in nurturing young minds and guiding them on their artistic journeys. Teaching became my passion, and for six fulfilling years, I dedicated myself to inspiring creativity in my students.
When the time came to raise my daughter, I made the decision to step away from the public school system and homeschool her throughout her school years. During this time, I continued to share my love for art by teaching art to homeschoolers across Palm Beach County. It was a rewarding experience that allowed me to continue growing as an artist and educator.
Then, the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. During this challenging period, I found myself reflecting on my own artistic journey and the obstacles I had faced. Determined to prove my doubters wrong and overcome my colorblindness, I picked up a paintbrush once again. To my delight, I discovered that my skills had not diminished but had instead evolved and grown stronger.
Creating and selling my own art for three years provided me with a newfound confidence and validation in my abilities. However, it was a conversation with my wise daughter that made me realize something crucial. As I encouraged her to pursue her passions in life, she turned the question back to me, asking why I wasn't teaching art anymore since it was my true passion.
Her words resonated deeply within me, and I realized that she was right. Teaching art was my true calling, and it was time for me to return to it wholeheartedly. Not only would it allow me to inspire and guide young artists, but it would also serve as a catalyst for my own creative growth and enable me to produce even more remarkable artwork.
In addition to teaching, I am honored to serve as a board member of the Wellington Art Society, where I actively contribute to the art community and engage with fellow artists. My art style primarily revolves around mixed media, as it allows me to explore a variety of materials and techniques, resulting in unique and captivating compositions.
I believe that art has the power to transform lives and transcend barriers. My journey as a colorblind artist and educator has taught me resilience, perseverance, and the importance of following one's true passion. Through teaching art full-time once again, I hope to instill the same wisdom and love for creativity in my students that my daughter unknowingly ignited within me.
Thank you for visiting my website, and I invite you to join me on this artistic adventure. Let's inspire and create together!
